Uncle Buck is a TV series based on the 1989 film of the same name starring John Candy. The TV series debuted in 1990 on CBS.The television version starred Kevin Meaney as Buck, a slob who drinks, smokes and is named the guardian of Tia, Miles, and Maizy after his brother and sister-in-law, Bob and Cindy, die in a car accident. However, in the movie, Bob and Cindy (who are, naturally, alive and well) ask Buck to babysit because they have to travel from Chicago to Indianapolis to visit Cindy’s father that just had a heartattack. The show was not received well by TV critics. After it was moved to Friday, in an attempt by CBS to establish a comedy night there, the shows ratings quickly plummeted and it was cancelled.
